Did...did the Malibu actually just beat the Accord (a 10 Best List spot-holder) and Camry in a C&D comparison test?
It lost to the Mazda 6 (of course) but holy crap. The Malibu might actually have its collective shit together now. Well, again maybe since reviewers were also somewhat fond of the 2008-2012 model.

Whoo! We’re making a comeback! The 08-12 generation remains the best generation because 2-tone basketball/black leather interior, and 3.6L V6

They probably mistook it for a BMW and gave it a good score by association.

Yeah, I read that the other day. Then again, FWIW, the Accord is in the last year of its model cycle. I wonder if the Accord gets an invite back to be in the running for 10 best since it lost the comparo (I can't remember if previous year winners get an automatic entry).

Good work Chevy!
I still think it’s ugly though.

Agreed. I also think it’s by far the best looking model since you could get a Malibu powered by a small block V8. So clean and understated.

Not to mention, I’m fairly biased :)

The more I see them in person the more the design grows on me, honestly. Especially the Premier with those 19" multi-spoke twist wheels.

I’ve seen plenty of them in person, I’m just not feeling it.

That grille ruins everything. Why didn’t they just put the Impala front end on the ‘Bu?

A friend and I test drove a current Accord Sport and a current 6 back to back last year. The 6 was a better car in every way. Doesn’t surprise me that the Malibu beat the Accord here.

Yay Mazda6! :D
Oh congrats Malibu, too. :)

Remember this is a comparison of base models, not an averaged comparison across the entire range. I completely agree with this outcome.

It’s not a bad car, it just has a derp face imo. Kudos to Chevy though for trying to make the Malibu relevant again though.

Because then they’d have two Impalas. They’re practically the same size as it is now.

I dunno, it seemed like they tested what the average person would buy, save the Accord maybe which would need to be an EX. Mid-range models with the most efficient (read: base) motors.

Just wait til the Accord gets refreshed though.
You’re comparing a brand new design to something already a few years old.

They could have at least thought twice about green lighting that front end before releasing it. I suspect a rash refresh like with the last gen.

The CVT seemed to be the biggest strike against it, not enjoyable and not an efficiency return to offset the dislike, 6spd auto Mazda 6 outdid all 3 other cars in acceleration and mpg. Tried the auto when got my 6, I wouldn’t mind it at all, it really is a great transmission, just not passing up 3 pedals when offered. I think Mazda has been making deals with the devil lately, an automatic transmission that doesn’t really have any huge negatives aside from a bored left foot.

Kind of anonymous, which sells well.
